Ameen began working for Radio Ceylon (later the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation) in 1952. His career took off when he launched "Binaca Geetmala," a weekly countdown of prominent Hindi film songs. Ameen's fascinating comments, trivia, and melodic voice made Binaca Geetmala a cultural phenomenon.

Every week, millions of people tuned in, making it South Asia's most popular radio programme. Sayani's career spanned six decades, during which time he produced and presented over 54,000 radio programmes and 19,000 voiceovers for advertising and jingles. He also experimented in acting, appearing in several films in minor parts, frequently as an announcer.
