The FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 will be the ninth edition of FIFA's quadrennial international women's football championship, contested by women's national association football teams and organised by FIFA. The tournament will be hosted jointly by Australia and New Zealand from 20 July to 20 August 2023; it will be the first FIFA Women's World Cup to have more than one host nation, as well as the first senior World Cup of either gender to be held across multiple confederations, as Australia is part of the Asian Confederation and New Zealand is part of the Oceania Confederation. This tournament will also be the first to use the expanded format of 32 teams.

On February 19, 2019, the bidding for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 began. Member associations interested in hosting the tournament had until 15 March to submit a declaration of interest, and by 16 April, they had to provide the completed bidding registration. However, when the tournament expanded to 32 teams on July 31, FIFA revised the bidding timeline. Other member associations interested in hosting the tournament now had until August 16 to submit a declaration of interest, with completed bidding registration of new member associations and re-confirmation of prior bidders due by September 2nd.
Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Japan, South Korea (with an interest in a joint bid with North Korea), New Zealand, and South Africa initially expressed interest in hosting the events. Following the new deadline, Belgium expressed interest in hosting the tournament, but later dropped out with Bolivia in September 2019. Later, Australia and New Zealand announced that they would combine their bids in a joint submission. Brazil, Colombia, and Japan have joined them in submitting bid books to FIFA by December 13th. However, both Brazil and Japan withdrew their bids before the final vote in June 2020.
Australia and New Zealand were awarded the bid to host the Women's World Cup on June 25, 2020. The decision was made following a vote by the FIFA Council, with the winning bid receiving 22 votes and Colombia receiving 13. Neither country had previously hosted a FIFA World Cup. This will be the first Women's World Cup to be held in multiple countries, and only the second World Cup to do so since the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea. It is also the first FIFA Women's World Cup to be held in the southern hemisphere, the first senior FIFA tournament to be held in Oceania, and the first FIFA tournament to be hosted by multiple confederations (with Australia in the AFC and New Zealand in the CONCACAF).
